herbs and spices, many that one cannot normally find in the
typical USA supermarket. Spices are important to us, so
needless to say, freshly ground black pepper is considered to
be a necessity.
We have gone through so many pepper mills over the years! It's
been a very disheartening experience. Earlier this year my wife
and I were actually discussing how great it would be if we could
find a good pepper mill. If only someone had a recommendation.
Our wish came true.
In the weekly "Food & Wine" section of our local newspaper
(San Jose Mercury News, January 30, 2002) there was an article
that listed readers comments to an article where a dozen local
chefs recommended the "Top 10" kitchen tools. A reader (Susan
Barnett, Sunnyvale, CA) wrote that after many years of
disappointment and frustration (like me) she finally discovered
mills made by William Bounds. She has had her William Bounds
for nine years and loves it! It always works.
So, when I saw William Bounds peppers mills at Amazon.com, I
thought, "What the heck."
Ordered it, and man... I am happy!
This particular model has a patented ceramic milling mechanism.
In other words, it even better than one made out of metal.
Lifetime warranty. It has three settings (fine, medium and
coarse) on the ring at the top of the mill.
We like our fresh ground pepper on the coarse side and that is
what this particular mill excells at. For people that like
ground black pepper to be fine like a powder, this is not the
pepper mill for you. Some people might consider the settings
to be coarse, coarser and really coarse -- which is just fine
for us.
It has a great feel in your hands, looks nice and most important
of all, it really works!

This is unmistakably the pepper mill of choice for chefs and food professionals, or for that matter anyone who is likely to need lots of ground pepper fairly quickly. The brushed stainless steel body is not only durable and strong, it's also great looking.
